Holding stablecoins is nothing new—the real challenge is making them spendable in everyday life. Despite the rapid growth in crypto wallets and blockchain innovation, few projects have connected digital dollars with real-world payments. At Rizon, we’ve partnered with Rain to turn stablecoins into money that’s spendable at millions of merchants worldwide.

The challenge of turning stablecoins into spendable money

Stablecoins like USDC offer the security, transparency, and programmability of blockchain technology. But converting that value into spendable fiat in real time—without compromising control or security—is a challenge. Traditional banks and payment systems are not built to handle real-time crypto flows.

That’s where Rain comes in.

Rain: the infrastructure powering Rizon’s global payments

Rain is a developer-first card issuance platform that enables fintech companies to launch global crypto card products quickly and compliantly. Their infrastructure handles the complexities of payment authorization, fiat conversion, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions. For Rizon, Rain is the backend powerhouse that brings our user experience to life.

How it works: behind the Rizon card

For users, the experience is effortless: open a wallet, load it with USDC, and spend anywhere Visa is accepted. Here's what happens behind the scenes when a user taps or swipes their Rizon Visa card:

  1. A transaction request is routed via Visa to Rain’s infrastructure.
  2. Rain verifies that the cardholder is able to complete the transaction. Once verified, the transaction goes through.
  3. Visa settles directly with the merchant in the merchant's local currency.
  4. Rain settles the transaction with the cardholder on-chain.
  5. Rain settles with Visa in USDC on-chain.

All of this happens in seconds, with no manual steps or interruptions to the user experience.

Global reach, local compliance

Rain enables Rizon to offer cards that work globally, while adapting to local regulations. Whether the user is shopping online in the U.S. or withdrawing pesos in Mexico, the infrastructure adapts to ensure compliance and speed. This allows Rizon to scale into new markets rapidly—without sacrificing security or performance.

Building the future of programmable payments

With Rain powering our backend, Rizon users get the best of both worlds: the control and transparency of stablecoins and the flexibility of traditional card networks. This preserves user custody, enhances usability, and unlocks real-world stablecoin utility for millions. Together with Rain, we're building the rails for a more inclusive, borderless financial future.
